Storm Clouds

It rained the day you died
I wasn’t there
I had to find an almanac
To figure out
What your last day was like
But I knew without knowing
It rained.

Did you think of me?
Our happy times together
Our yelling
Our purring
The soft sounds of night’s sweet music
My silent tears,
A salty rain.

Storm clouds are blowing in
I sit by the window
To stare at the world outside
To roam the world within me
To pull you forward in my thoughts
It’s all mixed up with days upon days,
But, I know – It is the water, it is the rain
That brings you to me.

That night at the beach
Our first time
Water was everywhere
The ocean slamming against the shore
Rain falling on our car
In a cascade of frenzied lust –

The thirst –
Our lips wet
Warm
Sweet
The drill of desire and passion sweeps
Tangled up in arms and legs
The reclining seat as our sweat infused
The rain continued to fall.

Pisces dear Pisces
It was the water
In which we drowned
Love’s passionate redress
That holds our memories
Each time the clouds coalesce
Your spirit comes to me
We are again, alone
On that beach
Finding love for the first time
Through salty tears,
I remember.

In the Music

Laying back to feel

The memories cycle through my soul

Wondering if life got it wrong some how

Never knowing how love so clear

Could cloud my mind

For the price of a thousand tears –

~

He gave me Ms. Simon

I trusted his smile

We listened together in the dark

“I’ve got to have you”

Playing over and over again

Drifting along Mulholland Drive

On hot summer nights

With the wind in our hair

It really felt so right –

Carly understood the love we shared

The music connected us through the years

He bent me back as we stared down

On the sparkling, city lights

As the fire burned inside,

We planned for times that never came

Unspoken dreams to the end.

~

Time flew fast, when another appeared

Springsteen singing

Thunder Road On his radio

He was so young in ‘75

I wished I had known him then –

The nineties were our romance years

It was when he figured out

That all along his man Bruce

Was singing to him about us –

His hungry ambition and desire

Razed my doubts

He pulled me close, to purify my past –

Racing along that two lane life

While we dreamed of times

Just down that road

In the dark of night,

We didn’t see that blind curve

He swerved and life fell away.

~

Two loves

Too close to compare

Both separated

By fate’s design –

Life’s miseries fade with time

While hope keeps

Beckoning me close,

The music continues to play.

Widow’s Heart

It’s hard to carry
This widow’s heart
Beating for two inside
One chest
It’s a burden to mourn
Daily
It’s a sadness that never
Recedes
The voice of the missing
Sounds off
With each decision made
Each thought is analyzed
Just as it was before
Only
There is never
A confirming nod
The arguments incomplete
No longer are there kisses
Or dreams, or smiles, or frowns
Shared
Living for two
Is tiresome and always,
Always
incomplete
